Shields earns spot in hall of fameALMONTE, Ont. (CP) — It is impossible to get hored by winning, says Kathy Shields.She should know, She won three Canadian Interuniversity Sport basketball championships as a player and eight as a coach.It was like instant love, and then it became on obsession,” she said of her affinity for the sport upon being inducted Saturday into the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame.Shields played on one CIS title team at the University of British Columbia and on two more at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ont. She then coached eight titlists at Victoria. The former national team player and head coach amassed a 320 -50 record at Victoria before requesting medical leave two years ago when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.Also inducted were Eli Pasquale, the starting guard on five UVIC national championship teams and CIS player of the year in 1984, Hank Tatarchuk, the former Royal Military College coach, and the late lack Kenyon, the former Canadian junior team head coach.Shields joins her husband in the sport's Canadian shrine. Ken Shields coached UVIC to seven CIS men’s titles and was inducted in 1999.He mentored me and he pushed me and got me to improve, made me go to clinics ” said Kathy Shields. He gave me the support system to become a better coach ”
