Five local harriers compete atFreshman-Sophomore InviteFrom staff reportsKERNERSVILLE — Five local crosscountry runners prepared for this week’s conference championships by competing in the Freshman-Sophomore Invitationalheld on Oct. 12 at Beeson Park.Hunt had four runners compete, while Beddingfield had one in the meet which brought together the best freshmen and sophomore runners from all classifications, both public and private schools, in the state. ^ ;Lady Warriors’ sophomore Lauren West finished 10th in the girls race with a time of 19 minutes, 40.3 seconds. Her placing earned her a medal, which went to the top 21 racers in each event.West followed that by capping an unbeaten run through the 3-A Big East Conference with a winning effort of 20:23 on Wednesday at Red Oak Middle School.On the boys’ side, Bruins’ sophomore Jacob Vamell was the best finisher with a time of 17:45.71, which was good for 38th place.Vamell won the 2-A Eastern Plains Conference title on Tuesday with a time of 17:53 at Boyd Lee Park in Greenville.Close behind him in Kemersville was Warriors’ sophomore Marcus Medina-Artis, who finished 46th with a time of 17:57.69. They finished 15th (19:05) and 57th (21:52), respectively, at the Big East meet.The next step for these runners are East Regional meets on Opt, 26.Beddingfield will compete in the 2-A East Regional at Boyd Lee Park at noon, while Hunt will head to Red Oak Middle for the 3-A East Regional at 10:30 a.m.
