I M k II I I II 1^Roosevelt’s Greg lluber All Wrapped Up sAKeith Snaps RooseveltJinx 34-6; Wins TitleBy JIM LANFKeith finally ended the Roosevelt jinx Friday.Coach Bob Crago's Rams capped an unbeaten season with a 34-6 triumph over their longtime junior high rival at Mansion Park and pocketed the championship of the Inter-County League’s Eastern Division for the secondyear in a row.Keith, plagued by penalties in the early going, spotted Roosevelt a first period touchdown, but it was just a matter of time before the boys from the hill got rolling.The Rams scored twice in the second period to lead by 14-6 at intermission. The second half was all Keith as the Rams dominated play and controlled the ball.Crago’s gang piled up 252 yards on the ground and the big man in that department was Keith Hatch who chalked up 102 yards in 11 carries. Ironically, Hatch went to Roosevelt last year, but transferred this term.Roosevelt Leads 6-0Church Coder had his Roosevelt club fired up and the Roughriders gave their fans hope for an upset by marching 66 yards in nine plays after the opening kickoff.Randy Evans picked up some key yardage in the drive and quarterback Paul Keen tossed a 46-vard pass to Greg Huber that put the Teddies on the six. A couple plays later Brad Benson bulled his wav into the end zone. Benson also tried a run for the two-point conversion but was stopped.Keith hadn't beaten Roosevelt since 1959 and it looked like the jinx might continue as the Rams were turned back in their first threat. They drove to the Roosevelt 10 but a holding penalty ruined that bid.Midwav through the second period Keith took over following a jpunt. Jim Gehret fired a pass to 1 Doug Duncan who made the catch on his own 45 and outran the secondary for the touchdown. The Inlay covered 73 vards. The PAT 'railed and it was 6-6.A short time later Howard Shawley pounced on a Roosevelt fumble at the Teddies’ 30. Aided by a face mask penalty, the Rams moved in for the go-ahead score in just three plays. Hatch got the TD on a six-yard sweep around his own right end. Terry Johnson ran the extra point and the Rams led 14-6.2nd Half PowerKeith showed its power in the second half. The Rams took the second half kickoff and drove 67 yards in nine plays. Quarterback Gehret rammed his way up the middle the final seven yards to make it 20-6.Hatch recovered a short kickoff and the Rams were in business again. On the first play after the recovery, quarterback Gehret rolled to his left to pass. Seeing no one open, he tucked the ball under his arm and scooted 53 vards to paydirt. That made it 26-6.Early in the fourth period, Keith stopped Roosevelt on the Ram 24. After Hatch ran for 32 yards on two plays, Duncan turned right end and dashed 30 yards for the final TD of the day. Johnson rushed the extra points to set the final count at 34-6.Keith finished with a 6-0-1 record The tie was with Windber 1(8-8) in the opening game of the season. Windber went on to win 11-C Western Division honors.!
