Saint Jo jNocona Indians’ fans are turning over thoughts of a regional championship this year. The reasons: Coach Lewis “Bullet” Gray found a nice assortment of talent on hand and the boys are hustling for him.Until a larger one is found, Nocona claims to have the biggesthigh school football player in Texas. Giant “Blubber” Arnold wasinduced by Coach Gray to reduce to 285 pounds He can still supporttwo of the team’s star players, J. T. Swearingin, left guard, and BillyMartin, back. Arnold, who plays tackle, and Martin are co-captains.See anything familiar about the ball carrier in the center? That’sSam Crain, who has started down the same trail that led his brother, Jack, to University of Texas fame. Jug Benton blocks for him. Coach Gray said “Benton is a great blocker and Sam is following in Jack’s footsteps. Jack led Sam only 5 yards in a recent 100-yard race.”Lower photo shows a guard and a center who are “just as tough as they look, and all-conference material,” according to Coach Gray. Hie guard is Jack Steadman and the center is Billy Ross McMahon. For the first time this year in conference competition the Nocona Indians will meet a real test today in the Newcastle Bobcats on the latter’s field. Coaches Gray and Spears will leave at 9:00 o'clock this morning with about twenty-five of the squad for the game to be played on the Newcastle field at 2:30 p.m.The Indians, with two weeks rest under their belts, w-ill enter the game at top speed except for a few minor injuries that have persisted in following the team. Coach Gray is still hobbling around with his injury-but has managed to throw away the crutches during the last few days. J. T. Swearingin, crack 130 pound guard, will be back into the lineup today for the first time since the Electra game three weeks ago. Jug Benton will probably be the only regular that will see little service and may even have to watch the game from the sidelines on account of a sprained ankle in practice last Tuesday. Jack Steadman has been in bed part of the week with an infected foot but will be in the starting lineup.Today’s game is expected to be the battle that will practically eliminate one of the district favorites from the race toward the championship.
