Notre Dames, Michigan, Southern California, and others might be faced with new national championship rivalry.BE ITS CHICAGOThe first team, selected from Lake county boys who have played college ball since 1331, surpasses anything that might have been picked from Chicago and Cook county high schools during the same period. Lake county had a population of 261.-325 in 1330 against 3,900,000 for Cook county. In other words, the Chicago district has 15 times as much potential material to draw from.No state, lest it he California, could far surpass Lake county in production of big league footballers.The first team, listed nearby, boasts three potential all-Amer-L. Kekich. who rates the second team, was selected as Indiana's most valuable” player during the 1932 season.Horace Buettner, Hammond lad. who played guard at Purdue in 1931. was rated all-Conference on numerous selections. He now Plays professionally with the Indianapolis Indians. Zeller Is amember of the Chicago Bears. Kekich plays tackle for the Hammond-Pullman Panthers.Ends on the first team are Arvo Antilla, huge Whiting lad. who now rates as one of the best tackles at Illinois and Norbert Rascher, Cedar Lake, whp plays plenty of wing at Notre Dame.PETERS’ FI TIRE GREATThe tackles are Yards, former Horace Mann fullback, who is at the present time a first-string guard on the powerful Ohio State machine, and Bill Peters. Hannnond Tech graduate. Peters weighs 210.Dick Smith, our first-team center, played the pivot last year for Ohio State and rated second all-Conference in many selections. He now plays with the Boston Redskins of the National Pro league.The backfield would consist entirely of men who have won their spurs at Notre Dame. Thequarterback would be Emmett Murphy, an East Chicagoan. The halfbacks would be Steve Banas. formerly of Catholic Central, and Nick Lukats, one-time hero at Froebel. The fullback, of course, would be none other than our pal, Don Elser.The line on this first team would average 196 while the backs would scale 190.Proceed to the second team and you find another powerful lay-out—one that would tickle any college coach.Go on down as far as the third string and you'll find a world of football ability.WASHINGTON LEADSWashington High, of East Chicago. has 11 former stars listed on these three teams; Hammond has 6. Whiting 4, Horace Mann 3, Cedar Lake, Froebel and Roosevelt 2 each.Indiana university has grabbed off nine of these stars. Six of them have played under the colors of Notre Dame and three at Alabama. The others are pretty evenly divided between a list of major schools.Now maybe you’re convinced that the boy8 in the Calumet district play their share of football.If not. slip over to Washington field Friday night and watch Whiting battle East Chicago’s Senators in a game that may decide the championship of the Big 16 conference.
