1974 State Marching Band Contest - BrrrrIt was a cold and windy day but then it usually is for a State Marching Band Contest,;But it wasn’t too cold for theHumboldt Marching Band to pull down their fifth I rating in a row, Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Humboldt athletic field.It was the first time a state contest has been held in Humboldt, which this year served as one of four contest centers. The others were Atlantic, Vinton and Wapello.The contest in this part of the state was originally scheduled for Storm lake, but was later changed to Humboldt.Humboldt’s I rating came inClass A. In that class Webster City and Storm Lake also received I ratings.The Twin Rivers MarchingBand received a I in Class C.Other area bands didn't fare as well however. Pocahontas was given a n rating in Class B and Goldfield received a HI in Class C.Competing schools and their -’final ratings are as,follows; Class AA - Des Moines .
