LEyent Is First of a Series to Be Held This Season,i ■'• The first of three swimming: meetsto be staged by the Y. \V. C. A., was held Friday evening In the Y. W. C. A. swimming pool and was attended by a large number of spectators.The meets are being staged as part of the swimming courses being held tinder the direction of Miss Harriet Fay Yotinglove* swimming instructor at the t. The winners of the va*rlous events in each meet are eligibleto enter the following one, and are permitted to try to Improve their ability between meets. The next meet will be held In two months and the third and final meet In four months. The winners In each meet are awarded points and In the final meet those with the most points will be awarded prizes. There will be four silver lov* Jng cups, four free swimming terms, four plunge tickets and four Y. W. C, A. badges tlt;f be awarded to the win*ners.Florence Stringer, physical director Df the Y. W. C. A., is umpire for the •neets. The judges are C, A. Berg, physical director at the Y. M. C. A„ 3ud Thompson and Steve Huff.The winner of the 60-yard side itroke for girls between the ages of 5 and 11, was Genevieve Hand rug.' Hary Hamlin won the event for girls etween the ages of 12 and 14. Olive Steele won the event for girls between he ages of 15 and 20 and Helen flock* vert won the women's event.
