Chroncle PhotCentral college came from behind twice Saturday to win against William Penn, 21-13, before a happy Homecoming crowd at Kuyper stadium.The Big Red went into the lead the second and last time m the third period and it was the defensive team that did it. William Penn was on their own 9 yard line with fourth down. The pass from center was too low for the kicker. John Milburn. who could not handle the ball. Two Central linemen charged in, and John Danks. a 5 foot, 8 inch defensive center from Runnells. fell on the ball to make the score13-13 when the clock showed 6:09 to go in the third quarter. Bruce Joslyn. connectedon the second of his throe successful tries for the point and Central was in front to stav.14-13.The start of the game was a different picture. Central kicked off and the Pennmen started scrimmage from their 40. nn the fir*t n'av, Buddy White ran 60 yards to score. White missed the kick for point and the score was 6-0.Central's offensive went into gear in the second quarter as Coach Ron Schipper’s boys pounded away. They worked deep into William Penn's end of the field and on fourth down and a yard away from the goal. Doug Black barrelled into the line and scored. Joslyn made good on the point and Central's outlook was bolstered by a 7-6 lead.The Statesmen were not finished. however. About nine minutes later in the second period. Penn had moved to the Cenrtal 11 yard line. There Allspaeh pitched a short pass to Ed Williamson. Penn end. who ran into the end zone. This time White's point trv was good and the Oskaioosa team was back in front. 13-7, where the score stood at half-time.One of several breaks aiding the Central cause took place with six minutes to go in the second quarter. A pass play. Allspaeh to David Cozart, was good for a touchdown, but an official found Penn guilty of an infraction and the score did not count.Central made three interceptions of Penn passes. The first by Jim Keegan with 11:15 to go in the third quarter led to Central’s second touchdown. The Big Red failed toscore on the series, and Penn took over. The Statesmen likewise found the going tough against the Flying Dutch defense. They were on their own 9 yard line with fourth down when the fatal pass to the kicker turned into Central's second touchdown with Danks recovering the ball behind the goal.The Big Red were charged up at this point and William Penn was having problems. Central moved down to the Penn one-vard line, after Larry Wimams intercepted a Penn pass on the 34. and the third period ended.On the first p av oi tin* ti-nal period. Lowell Bauer, junior ha’fback from Grimes, plunged over. Again Joslyn made the point. That made the score 21-13.Williams intercepted another Penn pass, but the Central drive tor another touchdown failed late in the game.Central’s pass interceptions seem more important after looking at the statistics. Willem gained 318 yards.218 by passing and 100 rushing. ceim,.: gained 61 through the air and 126 on the ground. Central lost the ball once by a fumble. William Penn fumbled four times and lost the ball once.Penn tried 31 passes, completed 18 and had 3 intercepted. Central made good on 6 of 15 attempts.The game clock showed 7: 27 to go in the fourth when Central recovered a Penn fumble. Penn was attempting to punt from the Statesmen 28 yard line.
