Qarcia Opens WorkFor Ruz Battle AtFt, McIntosh TodaySet to regain his laurels as one of the most popular boxers to ever fight in a Laredo ring, Carlos Garcia returns to the scene of his conquests of yesteryears Wednesday night when he meets Joe Ruz, flashy Yucatan fighter, on the grand finale of an all-star card at the Fort McIntosh bowl. The(.bout js slated to go ten rounds or less and will easily be the best scrapIvr71pa7S* I*H I3 ’staged here since Tracy Cox pounded his way to victory over Battling Shaw on the opening card of legalized boxing.The Garcia-Ruz scrap will be one of two main events on the card. Cecil Lozada will he featured on the preceding bout which is also slated for 10 rounds. Efforts were made to match Lozada with Kid Jimenez of Nuevo Larodo, but the Laredo boy was already billed for next week. Officials stated they would secure some good opponent for Lozada, possible from Monterrey to make the card complete in every detail.Garcia is slated to arrive here Sunday and will go through his first workout for the fight before Laredo fans at the Fort McIntosh gymnasium at one o’clock Sunday afternoon. A large crowd of the “Garcia Faithful” are expected to be on hand to see him go through his paces on his first day here.Julio Montes, Garcia’s manager, was in Laredo Saturday and spoke in highest terjns of Ruz. He stated that Ruz is one of the most promising lightweights now in Mexico and stated that Garcia was facing a real fight in meeting him. Out of his last: 20 fights, Ruz has won 20 of them via' the knockout route. He is fast on his feet, and reputed to be a brainy ring ; general. Reports state he can hit i with either hand and has an open style of fighting that calls for plenty of slugging in any bout he fights. Ruz is expected to arrive here from Monterrey Monday and will also establish training quarters where fight bugs can see him work out prior to the* scrap.The Garcia-Ruz bout inaugurates a new promotion policy here by officials with which they hope to make Laredo the leading fight town in state.
