Triton rolls over DuPage•)3914DuPage122513312-3121588-27.11-1456?By MARTY GUNTHERStatisticsFirst DownsYards Rushing Yards PassingPassesHad Intercepted Total Offense Punts Fumbles—Lost Yards Penalized Offensive PlaysTriton222581107*1734684-33.82-212475The Triton College football machine ground out its third victory in four starts last Saturday, as the Warriors opened at home to defeat the College of DuPage 39-14.It was the first football game ever staged on the Triton College field, running parallel to Fifth Avenue in River Grove.About 1,250 spectators attended.The Warriors ground out more than 350 yards on the ground and 110 through the air to win easily.Triton scored the first time it had theball, marching 52 yards in four plays forthe tallv.*QUARTERBACK Jim Cartwright swung around left end from the 12-yard line and reached the end zone untouched.The score was set up by a 40-yard run by halfback Walter Anderson.DuPage capitalized on a Warriormiscue midway through the first period to close the gap to 7-6.Sam White lost possession of the ball on the Triton 30 and a Chapparal defenderpounced it. It took DuPage six plays to score, the TD coming on a Carlos Villarreal-to-Bernard Murray pass covering five yards.The score followed a 28-yard strike from Villarreal to flanker Robert Graves. Dennis Bogna’s PAT attempt was blocked by Steve Carson.Triton rebounded from the DuPage tally with another of its own two minutes later.MARK CARLSON, a 6-2, 190-lb.halfback, scampered around his left end for 25 yards and the TD. Earlier in the 59-vard drive, he had picked up 16 yardsaround right end. Anderson’s 13-yard runhad moved the ball to the Chapparal 25.Triton again scored early in the second quarter on a 15-yard run by fullback Sam White. Rich Becker’s interception of a Villarreal pass set up the tally.The Warriors were successful with an onside kick on the following kickoff, but were unsuccessful in moving the ball toward the DuPage goal.Cartwright found end Maurice Bobbittalone in the end zone on a 10-yard pass just before the half ended. Bobbitt made a spectacular one-handed grab of the ball as he cut from the right side of the Warrior line across the front of the goal posts. Herb William’s kick made the score Triton 26, DuPage 6 at the half.DUPAGE SCORED again late in the third quarter as Murray plunged in from the one. Villarreal passed to Bill Kolar for the two-point conversion.But Anderson scored the next time Triton had the ball to put the game out of DuPage’s reach. His five-yard run capped an 80-yard drive, highlighted by his 18-yard run and a 36-yard Carwright-to-Bobbitt pass.The final Triton score came with-seconds remaining in the game. Carwright threw his second TD pass of the contest, this time finding Dan McCullough alone for the 8-yard acore.ANDERSON and McCullough ran wild in the contest, combining for 238 yards on the ground. Anderson, a former Evanston high back, gained 126, an average of 8.4 per carry.Meanwhile, the Triton defense tormented the Chapparal running game, limiting DuPage to only 25 yards on 30carries.
