Drop Brunswick With Passing, RunningOrrville backs Fred Ray and Fred DeHart rolled up 249 yards on the ground, scoring three touchdowns, and Rick Helmuth hit Butch Falk on* * an opening pass play for a 56 yards as the Red Riders of Coach Mo Tipton outclassed Brunswick Friday night, 30-0, for their fourth shutout in fiveencounters.Ray, displaying the type of running that local fans had long expected, toted the pigskin 17 times for 12$ yards, bringing his season total to 440, atf average of five yards lor each attempt. ZeHart, who trailed his teammate by only seven yards with IB carries, now has 291 yards, or an average of 4.3 for each rush at the line.*. - * But the big play of the game has to be considered the predetermined bomb from Helmuth to Falk. Ray had returned the opening kickoff 34 yards to the Rider 44 to set the stage. Both ends of the Red and White were behind the *Blue Devil secondary, and the only doubt was to how long it would take the speedy Falk to cross the line. He succeeded at the 11:31 mark, and OrrvilleatKen-Lee Laneswas off to its second Chippewa conference win.Brunswick could not advance beyond its own 44 in three differ ent series, and the Rider offense was stopped an equal number within the Orrviile 42. In the meantime, Dave Hartshorn and Moore of the visitors waged a fine punting duel._ Rooks picked, Ml, Jfetauthpass, one of two that misfired for tlie evening, on the first play of the second quarter to give the Blue Devils their first opportun ity to cross midfield. Ron Chmiel-owiec gained six on second down to the Rider 46, but Moore was again forced to punt. Ray returned the kick to his own 20, and a personal foul by Brunswick add ed 15. With DeHart picking up 55 yards in five carries, Orrville chalked up its second counter in just seven plays. The hard-charg-infc fullback touched off the nuisance horns of the spectators with a one yard blast after his 38 yard run had carried to the Brunswick three yard line. Helmuth passed to Falk in the corner for the PAT.HarvatH pfcked off the second Helmuth aerial following another Brunswick punt, and the Medina County visitors launched their biggest offensive of the night, driving 40 yards to the Rider 30 with three first downs. The luck of quarterback Chmielowiec expired at this point, and his seventh pass in eight plays was picked off by Dwight Barnett at the Irrvill* 13 to end the deepest penetration against the defense unit, .parked by Tim Dalessan* dro. The Red and White killed the last tow minutes of the half with a drive just beyond midfield. Ground Attack*The ground attack really found itself in the third quarter, with a a finale. It took nine plays, all overland, to get the first, with Ray going the final four yards after setting it up with an 11 yard Jaunt from the Brunswick 15, the biggest gain of the drive. Helmuth fired to Jim Norman in the comer for the extra points. The Riders started their last scoring drive moments later following the eighth Brunswick punt. From their own 23, Ray picked up 40 yards in three attempts, DeHart 15 in an equal number of thrusts and Helmuth five yards on a keeper to bring the ball to the Blue Devil 17 as the third period ended. It took Ray just six seconds into the fiaal frame to go 17 yards on a beautifully executed trap play for the score, and he capped the .scoring and an enjoyable evening with the PAT on the necessary three yard blast. Three consecutive extra points equals the early season mark established against Northwest, and perhaps eases the concern of late.Orrville did miss an excellent scoring opportunity when Rich Shallenberger recovered a Brunswick fumble on the Blue and White- 10 yard line. Two running plays netted only two yards, a pask to Barnett failed, and Ray attempted, unsuccessfully, his first field goal of the season. But we won’t be greedy. 30-0 keeps it in round figures and is much easier to remember.
