Students Vote Against BanNine out of ten Texas Westerners who voted in Tuesday’s election have turned thumbs down on the Board of Regents’ ban on Negro participation in athletic jcompetion on state athletic fields. The official vote was 450 against, 50 for, and 60 abstaining.As a result of the voting the Student Council will adopt a resolution w'hich is to be sent to the Board of Regents asking for a change of policy.The issue came to a climax with the cancellation of the football game with Loyola University of Los Angeles because of the ban on Negro athletes. Protest was immediately sounded by students and prominent El Pasoans.Numerous resolutions have been drafted by civic organizations in opposition to the Regents’ ruling.Attorney Ted Andress has presented a resolution to the City Council to be approved and forwarded to the Board of Regents. The resolution cites the adverse publicity received by the college as a result of the game cancellation. It points out that “an overwhelming majority of El Pasoans disapprove of the ruling’’ and “in view of El Paso’s share in the building and ownership of KiddI Field, the ruling should beamended.”Southwestern Sun Carnival directors have also voiced their protest in the form of a resolution. The directors feel that the ruling is a threat to the success of the annual Sun Bowl game. They cited that it has become increasingly difficult to schedule games with teams from the East and Midwest.The Texas Western Ex-Stu-dents Association and downtown Touchdown Club are drafting resolutions against the ruling and advocating a change in policy.The protest to the ruling has been widespread in the hope that the ruling will be rescinded
