Alco Girls, Avey Take CVALAllegany won the girls division of the CVAL cross country meet by a 21-35 score and Fort Hill’s Vicki Avey was the individual champion Saturday at Rocky Gap State Park.Avey covered the 2V2-mile course in 16:30 while Alco’s Tawney Isom was second in 17:41. Mary Purdebaugh was fourth for Alco (18:18) and Barb Funk was fifth (19:17).Fort Hill ran only three girls so was not included in the team scoring. Martinsburg did not field a girls team.Martinsburg’s boys cross country team placed five runners in the top ten Saturday in nipping North Hagerstown 26-29 for the CVAL title.North also had the other five in the top ten, and the in-dividula champion in Earl Stoner. Stoner covered the 5,000 meter course in 17:20.
