fi—Sunday, Oclober 13, 1957\:a ..Mm v lt;Lamar gave Neosho Its first scare of the 1957 football season Friday night, but the Wildcatswere able to capitalize on Tigermiscues to emerge the victor, 26* 13. It was Lamar’s homecoming game. The victory was the fifth straight for Neosho.The Lamar team lost the ball three times on fumbles, and the Wildcats turned the first of these into a touchdown. A 72-yard punt return by halfback Leon Glover, a quick 53-yard drive and a pass interception by end Bill Ramsey accounted for Neosho’s scores.Lamar scored first with 4:44 remaining in the first half when halfback John Moore took a shortpass on the Neosho 43 and scooted down field for the score, and again with 35 seconds remaining in the bail game when halfback Jerry Donaldson plunged over from two yards out to cap a 50-yard drive against Neosho's subs.The Wildcats got off to a slow start, and for the first time this season failed to score in the firstperiod. But from there on in the team gradually picked ut steam. Still, a Neosho victory didn’t, appear a cinch until the fourth period.The Wildcats amassed 212 yardsrushing, but only seven In the air. Glover bounced back from n virus attack to pace the backfield with 80 yards in 10 carries. Quarterback Chuck Sturdcvant was the second leading ground gainer, picking up 44 yards in 11 carries.Lamar outgained the Wildcats, compiling 243 yards, 138 of those on pass plays and 105 rushing. However, the Tigers came out on the short end of the first downs, 12 to 9.Lamar lost the ball three times on fumbles and twice on pass interceptions, and if it hadn’t been for those miscucs the ball game might have gone the other way. The Wildcats lost the ball once on a fumble, but on the next pinv regained possession ®nd scored on Ramsev’s nass interception.
