Savage, after breaking the jaw-bone of his antagonist, was the conqueror.Kellyhorti, being an Irishman, was, as usual, supported by his countrymen, who broke into the ring upon finding the battle was in favour of Savage; in consequence of which, much confusion, and some broken heads, ensued.The bye+battle yesterday at Epping, was productive of events that, in their consequences, may be more important, though perhaps not more decisive.The contest alluded to, between Kellyhorn and Savage, lasted twenty minutes—and terminated in favour of the latter. Kellyhorn, however, did not yield, till one of his jaws was broken.Humphries and Mendoza happened to be present —and the former challenged the champion of I j the Israelites. Mendoza agreed to accept the | ^ challenge, provided that on weighing, there was no greater difference between them, than that allowed, according to the give and take principles of Broughton. This difference is seven pounds—and when weighed in the balance with Humphries, the jew—beyond that deficiency-— was not “ found wanting.” Their precise weight was as follows :Cwt. qr. lb.Humphries - I 1 13Mendoza - I I 6, The match, then, after Mendoza’s declaration, was supposed to be made, and the gentlemen present were proceeding to make their bets— when the jew started a new objection—that Humphnes was a stronger, and a taller man—and that he therefore would not fight him on a stage, but on the turf.This was very properly objeCted to by Humphries, as it is a common praClice with the Jews to break the ring, when they find their champion is in danger of being beaten—and seeing that Mendoza was not inclined to meet him on the orthodox principle of Broughton, he made the following proposal:That he would grant him a stage of 20 feet— with.liberty to shift—which would be two feet larger than that on which Ward and Johnson fought—or one of 24 feet, on condition he did not fall without receiving a knock dovon blovj. The beet he offered was from one to five hundred I pounds—or, if Mendoza did not think properto risk his money—for the honour alone of the victory. These very fair and honourable proposals, Mendoza declined—though, if he means to continue his school, and to keep up his character with his scholars—it is clear, that he must in the end accept them.
