He and colleague Sheldon Bouchard held their latest volleyball camp in Gimli after staging earlier clinics in Peguis, St. Jean, St. Pierre and Labroquerie.“Lots of Canadians play recreational and competitive volleyball, but the game hasn’t reached the masses, Koskie said during his Gimli camp. “I would like to change the mindset so that more kids choose to play. The Winnipegger has the background to lead volleyball to greater popularity. He learned the game at Dakota Collegiate and advanced to the University of Manitoba Bisons where he was a Canadian university player of the year and twice an all-Canadian. Selected to the Canadian men's team in 1995 and later named captain, he played in 326 international matches before retiring infriendly now that a point is awarded on every rally. He has played on all five continents with the Canadian nationals and his pro teams. “The fans are loud everywhere, but there are differences between countries, he said. The Japanese applaud and appreciate every great play and so do the Brazilians as long as it is their own team. After a decade of roaming the world, Koskie and his wife Jaclyn decided to settle in Winnipeg to raise their three children Darian, Noah and Alina, aged three to eight. He and Bouchard launched “Success for Sport whose instruction includes more than just the fundamentals of volleyball.“We also focus on lessons of life, said the former star setter who adds his playing experience in five different countries has developed his understanding of people.“We get into such areas as inter-personal relationships, mental preparation, time management, nutrition and physical conditioning. As well, there is a follow-up newsletter so the clinic is not just a one-shot affair.Athletics run in the Koskie family. Scott is a cousin of Anola’s Corey Koskie whoPhoto by Roger Newman
