Langan SibIn Hub City10-K RateTom Langan of Cumberland finished fifth overall in a field of more than 250 runners Saturday in the fifth annual Optimist Club/Shawley’s 10-kilometer road race in Hagerstown. Langan’s time was 33 minutes, 12 seconds.Bob McGreevy of Cumberland finished second in the men’s 50-59 age group with a time of 39:43.Other local runners competing were Gary Hanna, who finished in 38:12; Tim Farrell, 39:17; Jim LaRue, 39:58, and Dave Hutt, 41:16.The overall winner in 29:38 was John Doub of Waynesboro, Pa., whose time was 17 seconds off the course record of 29:21 set in the 1981 inaugural by Terry Baker.Jeff Scuffins of Hagerstown was second in 29:47, Dave Shafer of Middletown third in 30:41, and Dwayne Late came in fourth at 32:46.Winner of the women’s division was Maria Pazarentzos of Hagerstown, whose time of 35:40 knocked better than two minutes off the course record of 38:03 set last year by Carolyn Showalter of Maugansville.Showalter was third Saturday in 38:08 and her course marie was also broken Saturday by second-place finisher Kimberlee Belyea of Winchester in 36:28.
