For some reason, the project was abandoned.The excavation filled with water several feed deep and became a second pond which existed Song after the swamp had been filled in.During the winter the water froze unevenly mto an ice skating rink used by all the children of Highland School in the afternoons.During the 20s a flourishing Board of Trade recognized the need for a community recreation center and the upper level part of Boggs’ was the answer.There was a baseball diamond with bleachers and lots of picnic tables. Every Fourth of July, a great community picnic was held there.
