Unbeaten year for RodneysBy Brian MainmanSt. .lames Hods rolled to an undefeated regular season as they walloped Weston Wildcats 42-0, Sunday, in Manitoba-Sas-katchewan Junior Football League action. It was the last game lor the Wildcats as they w'ere eliminated from the playoffs when Saskatoon Hilltops blasted Regina Rams 27-0 Saturday in Saskatoon.Rams and Hilltops will meet in a sudden-death, semi-final in Regina Saturday, with the winner tangling with the Rods in the final commencing the following Saturday.The power running of Dale Hubble and the passing arm of Neil Maclvean led the Rods to the one - sided verdict. Hubble rambled for 133 yards to break the former league rushing mark held by Ted Meyers of the 1961 Hilltops. Dale ended with 891 yards to eclipse the old record by 33 yards.MacLean passed for four touchdowns as well as scoring the remaining pair himself. Danny Martin took two of the touchdown passes while Ermano Barone and Tom Wood picked up the others. Ken Kovacs converted all six.The game was a rough affair that threatened to break out into a free-for-all. A couple were ejected from the game after fist-swinging episodes and over-abusive language.Rods’ pass attack was their best of the campaign with Mac-Lean looking real sharp. If he can maintain this coolness during the post-season battles it will go a long way to making the Rods a double-barrelled headache for the opposition.All season the Rods have battered the other clubs with an over-powering running game with Hubble and Cooper leading the way.
