St-aff HhotoWarriors Bow to Somerset. 41-0By TERRY LEACH Gazette Sports EditorEVERETT — A determined Warrior eleven gave their beat Friday evening but without quarterback Ken Pittman bowed 41-0 to the unbeaten Golden Eagles of Somerset.The opening Mckoff was a tip to the power of the visitors. It went to huge fullback Jim Stephens around the Warrior 30.Charging Everett defenders were blocked toward the sidelines as Stephens galloped up the middle. Ha leaped high over one Warrior lying on the ground on the 50 and was gone.He added the point and it was 7-0 before the Warriors could catch their breath, But Everett had a few surprises for the Eagles when they kicked off.Pittman ripped off nine yards around end and halfback Mike Way got four to the 50 for an Everett first down. Gerry Bussard picked up eight more yards and the Warriors were moving.Colhns took a jump pass from Pittman and Everett was inside the Eagle 25, Pittman got four on akeeper, , fullba-ck Dave Williams collected six more and it was first down on the 12That's where the Somerset line stiffened, A fourth down pass from Pittman intended for Collin* fell incomplete in the end zone.Stevens got the ball on the first Eagle play from scrimmage, but was stopped cold by a wall of Warriors. The outcome was costly for the Warriors at Pittman didn’t get tup. He was removed from the contest with a possible concussion and saw no more action.Somerset began to drive. A long pass from Rusty Martz put Somerset on the Everett 40. A penalty set the Eagle-s back and the advance halted when, harry Ankeydropped a pass on the Everett five.The Warriors came ro-aring back upfleld behind substitute signal caller Ted Poor and a 15 yard penalty on a punt. The march ended on the Eagle 32 where Somerset recovered a fumble.The winners waited until later in the second quarter to start their second scoring drive. A Terry Wilt punt carried to the Eagle 29. A pitehout and lateral was good for 21 yards despite a five-yard penalty for a isecond forward lateral.Eagles Advance Eagle backs began ripping off short chunks of yardage in the persons of Stephens, Gerry DePhiLlips, and Ralph Berkley. Bill Fliekin-quarter Stephens intercepted an Everett aerial on the 45 and ran it back 55 yards for another touchdown. He again added the point.Substitute right half Joe Lutz intercepted another Warrior pass early in the fourth quarter. It gave Somerset possession on the Everett 26. Lutz went around end for 20 yards before taking it up the middle for the score.Del Hutzel was unable to run the point, but it stili was .14-0. Another intercepted pass set up the final Eagle score as both sides were using reserves.Vincent went all the way but a 15 yard penalty moved it back to the Everett 18.
