Editor,I am writing to voice my support for Mr. Turman and Coach Engler. As a former New Braunfels High School student, I was fortunate to have both men as my mentors. I find the manner in which they were treated by Mr. Campos and his cronies to be utterly reprehensible. John Turman and Chuck Engler have devoted a good part of their lives to NBHS only to have four neophytes (Mr. Campos, Mr. Padilla, Mr. Weaver, and Ms. Sanchez) make a mockery of that devotion. This abuse of power will only cripple NB1SD. Next, we’ll probably see Mr. Bradberry forced out of his position through some sort of secret vote in a back room somewhere — but please realize that as Mr. Bradberry goes, so goes NB1SD. If Mr. Bradberry leaves, he will take talented educators with him and this ridiculous obsession with his rollover contract will be to blame. Mr. Campos, Mr. Padilla, Mr. Weaver and Ms. Sanchez reinforce George Orwell’s observation that “Power is not a means, it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship.”Baron Lee Meliza NBHS Class of 1987
