HIKING OF GREENS FEES AT MUNICIPAL COURSE DISCUSSEDA proposal that greens fees ofthe Schifferdeeker municipal golfcourse be hiked from 35 to 40 centsto provide additional revenue forthe hiring of an assistant professional was discussed at a meeting of the park board last night. It was pointed out that Bill Byrnes, professional and business manager of the course, was kept busy managing the clubhouse and overseeing work on the course and that hiring of a young playing professional might stimulate interest and increase the number of players visiting the course during the year.Dale Tourtelot, member of the golf committee, made the original proposal, which it was estimated would necessitate an increase of between $350 and $500 in the course expense. Haywood Scott said he would not be in favor of the move unless some means of obtaining the additional expense was provided. The suggestion to increase fees followed, and the proposal was re7 ferred to the golf committee to make recommendations at the nextmeeting:.L, S. McKee, chairman of the golf committee, reported that income during the past year was substantially greater than revenue for1937 and 1938 and that a deficit of more than $4,500 experienced in1938 had been reduced each year until it is approximately $1,500 atpresent.
