The soldiers failed to prove any t match for Connie Mack's proteges and the American League team easily got away with a ^-I'victory.Both teams failed to show any special form and, barring one or two spectacular stops,,the contest was not in a class with the article of sport which the Blue JRidge furnished all summer. York was in the box for the soldiers and. though effective most of the time, was hit when hits counted. His team-mates also failed him in sev. eral critical situations.The Athletics* pitchers were effective throughout the game and at no time were in danger of being touched up for more than a few short hits.However, disappointing as was the affair from the sportsmen’s point of view, it was worth' while in that ;t give soldiers and civilians their firstl-inillis10aa-ice.tdISi chance to see' the- Athletics in action j on a local field.
