DEFEATEDIn me First Struggle With Ironton Was the Boys' Football TeamTb« Oam« W«» Full of Scrappluees and th« T«aui Wer« Ereoly Matched— Several Il*iut«8 and Mucli Slagging; of Flayer*.ICIt was a great game of football that was played at the fair grounds at New Boston yesterday.The alleged “boy” team of Ironton was to play the boy team of this place. Instead of boys the Irontons had a few men who play in the big team of that place to fill in. Oar boys therefore had to hunt around and get what they oould to meet them. They succeeded in getting Selby and Williamson, of onr High Bohool team, the rest of the team being composed of 100 pounders.The Irontons had the kick-off aud made a good one. Portsmouth soon lost the ball on downs. Then Ironton took it, and by steady gains landed a touch-down, whioh, as no goal posts wore erected, counted them six, although it was impossible to kick goal from where the touoh-down was made.Portsmouth kicked off deep into the territory of Ironton and the ball was advanced by Ironton twenty yaids. Both teams played hard for the rest of the half, but time was called with the teams near the center of the field. Score—Ironton 6, Portsmouth 0Selby, for the Portsmouths, kicked to the ten yard line as a starter in the Beoond half. Ironton gained steadily, but at last loBt- the ball on downs. The ball was here within fifteen yards of the goal, the nearest .it ever was to Portsmouth’s goal. Here an argument was raised, wbich lasted for fifteen minutes. The referee wanted to give the Irontons fifteen yards for .alleged ofiBide play, but the captains of both teams agreed.to let the ball stay where it wa« downed.Ironton worked the ball to the center of the field and there loBt it on a fumble, but before the home boys had time to do much, time was oalled. Score— Ironton 6, Portsmouth 0.The game was full of arguments and several times slugging was indulged in. The teams lined up as follows: Portsmouth—-Stone, center; Molster, left guard; Pfau, left tackle; Selby, left end; Smith, left half; Gordon, right guard; Williamson, right taoicle; MuBser, right end; Spencer, right half; Euglese, quarter back; Kehoe, full back.Ironton—Listy, center; —left guard; Small, left tackle; W.
