He was 80.Juckes was a lifetime member of the C AHA and the International Ice Hockey Federation and one of the most respected men in Canadian amateur hockey. He was pivotal in helping establish Minor Hcukey Week in Canada as well as helping to set up the national team program in the early 1960sJuckes, a member of Canada s Sports Hall of Fame and the Hockey Hall of Fame, was turn in Walrous, Sask., and was living in London, Ont., at the time of his death.After serving as CAHA president in 195940, he became the body's executive director for 18 years.y, he was the CAHA and the rest lt;Mw haday, said non Johnson,CAHA president from 1975 to '77. “He was a tower of strength, a world of wisdom, just a wonderf ul man.Juckes, a member of the Order of Canada, was president of the Saskatchewan Amateur Hockey Association from 1948 to '60 as well as the senior vice-president of the CAHA from 1957 to '59.“He was thought of very highly,” said Fred Page, another former president of the CAHA. “He was a wonderful man as far as hockey is concerned- He put a lot of time into amateur hockey.Juckes was in Milan, Italy, in May for the world championships when he suffered a heart attack-He subsequently missed the CAHA annual general meeting for the first time since the early 1950s but was still able to watch Canada win its first gold medal in 33 years thanks to his hockey colleagues, who taped the game for him so he could watch iliin the hospital.Juckes leaves behind his wife para, daughters Heather and Margaret and ions ExmaidandGwfcai Jr.
