Infallible Denny BonebrakeWins Winchester 200 ClassicThe infallible Denny Bonebrake capped a perfect season with the ultimate in local stock car racing by winning Sunday’s Winchester 200 at the Winchester Speedway.“I won this year much in the same way I lost last year,” Bonebrake said. “I learned from Ray Dovel.” Bonebrake led most of the way to the checkered during the 1980 Winchester 200 but was overtaken by Dovel with only 33 laps to go. Buddy Armel drew inside pole with a time of 18.287. Wayne Hussey won Sunday’s 25-lap consolation which gave him and five other competitors a starting slot in the race.The green for the 200 waved at 2:0? p.m. with Buddy Armel shooting out to assume the lead for 10 laps. Bonebrake got by Armel on lap 11 with Jim McBee of Orrtanna. Pa. moving into second position as lap 22. The Bonebrake-McBee saga began unfolding with the two top drivers battling it out during the remainder of the first 100 laps. WfcJIc Bonebrake had amassed nearly a half a track lead at times during the first segment, McBee was pushing on, keeping Bonebrake in his sites.By lap 73, both drivers had lapped the entire field and at the end of the first round, were the only two drivers running in the same lapAs the race continued after drivers had a chance to refuel and change tires, Bonebrake continued on his trek to the checkered but found a few setbacks along his journey.McBee began gaining ground on the leader despite lapped traffic is between he and Bonebrake. By lap 128, McBee was laying the groundwork for a possible takeover of the front position, just waiting for the opportunity to present itself.McBee gave Bonebrake a few bumper love taps to let him know he was alive and well and coming through. Bonebrake felt that pressure and went high on turns three and four. On lap 142, McBee got the edge on tuns one and two sideswiping Bonebrake’s No. 5 Camaro ts he assumed the lead position.McBee, driving the No. 11, continued to the hot spot and enjoyed a comfortable, but brief lead margin.
