They teamed to win a tiebreaker m the second set, 7-6, and rallied in thethird set, 7-5, to capture the deciding point. They had dropped the first set 2*6.Edwardsville drew first blood in the meet when Sharon Frey and Debbie Wild stopped Patty Peck and Kim Kellin 7-5 and6-4.However, it was an uphill battle the rest of the afternoon, with back-to-back wins by Jenny Grimes-Sue Hang and Sandy Haug-Cathy Carlton giving Wood River a 2-1 edge.Miss Hyten said that Miss Wild and Miss Frey looked very impressive in beating the top Wood River duo, considered by some to be two of the better players in the area.“Sharon and Debbie worked extra on their serves this week, and it paid off,” Miss Hyten explained.Edwardsville squared the meet with Kim Prott and Gena Bone scoring the point. The first set was decided 6-4, the second7-5.Miss Hyten indicated that Miss Ades and Miss Olson were a pair of “cooi” performers in the second and third sets.“Several times they could have folded, but luckily for us, they didn’t.” Miss Hyten said.MEET RESULTSFrey-Wild (E) over Peck-Kel-3in 7*5 and 6-4.Grimes-Sue Haug (WR) over Enloe*Fink 6-4 and 6-2.Sandy Haug-Carlton (WR) over Cannon-Gvillo 6-1 and 6-1.Prott*Bone (E) over Gregory-Gaines 64 and 7-5.Ades-Olson (E) over Cook-Peterbaugh 2-6, 7-6 (tie breaker) and 7-5.
