Locals Win From MilanA hard driving, determined M. H. S. football team took the field against an equally aggressive Milan, Mo., team, Tuesday afternoon. The Moulton lads hitched up their belt and took over the job of subduing one of the best squads ever to appear on the local gridiron. The M. H. S. team won after four quarters of as breath taking football as the most rabid fan would care to see. The score was 6-0.The Milan club is one of the best balanced teams ever to oppose a blue and white team. They were rangy, fast and aggressive and were a constant scoring threat.Moulton received the kickoff and after several thrusts at the line punted. Milan looked like a sure bet for a touchdown in this quarter but Moulton made a rugged* goal line stand to hold the visitors for downs. The remainder of the quarter was a nip and tuck battle. In the second period things happened in rapid succession. Moulton had the ball on their own twenty-five yard line when Lawrence Howard stepped back and booted the pig skin to Milan’s five yard line where it was downed. It was a beautiful kick and one of the many that Howard booted during the afternoon. Milan fell back in punt formation and kicked out to Francis Davis who weaved and sidestepped his way to the five yard line where Howard carried it over. The try for extra point was blocked. The remainder of the game was a thrilling spectacle with the locals throwing everything they had into the battle to protect their lead. And they were successful for only once did the visitors penetrate to 20 yard line. In the meantime the Milan squad was just as tough and the Moulton offensive found it difficult to penetrate the visitors forward wall. Milan was well supplied with substitutes and in a desperate attempt to snatch a victory substitutes were poured into the game by the Milan coach. It was an impossible feat however and the game closed with the locals carrying a six point margin of victory.Every member of the Moulton squad is to be congratulated 011 the fine game played. The line was a tough bunch with the possible exception of a few instances when one side failed to close up holes on the defensive. However, in the latter part of the game they remedied this fault. Fishel and Rutliff were potent factors in the line while in the back-field the work of-Francis Davis and Lawrence Howard was outstanding. The latter especially proved to be a crafty ball carrier and was a defensive whirlwind. His punting was nothing short of remarkable.Another tough game is just a-round the corner for the M. H. S. lads when they tangle with Union-ville, Mo., in what is expected to be the toughest game remaining for the locals. The game will be played in Moulton, Friday, October 13.
