SERIES OPENS ON SATURDAY AFTERNOONLa Junta will go out Saturday afternoon to the Laredo ball park equipped with a baU bat and a pair of shears. The utility team will play a three game series with the famed House of David nine. Hie teams are scheduled to play two games in Laredo and one in Nuevo Laredo Sunday afternoon.It was early in the season of 1920 when a bearded baseball club from Benton Harbor Michigan, Israelite House of David colony found it could not only play ball, but could rake in the shekels as well.Appearing at Gotham in just one of those matched affairs that mark every large institution's baseball season, the House if David nine met such a rousing welcome from the ‘ ticket-buying customers the club stayed two months—incidentally cleared the stagge.-ing sum of $23,000!The idea for maintaining a traveling j club was not born—it was shoved at the IHD institution. It has shown before big audiences in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, North and South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Wash, i ington, Oregon, Kansas Nebraska, Texas, Missouri and Oklahoma, as well as in every province of Canada Ifing between the Pacific and the Great Lakes.The traveling nine, which carries only 12 men and rides in a Packard and a small sedan, scored 66 runs against Pampa in three games, and Pampa turned about and beat Art Shires’ barnstorming Fort Worth Cats, Only the finest clubs had decisioned the club that has traveled 25,000 miles this season. ,What about the institution the club represents?
