Hunt's West wins at Nash CentralROCKY MOUNT — Hunt High sophomore Lauren West exercised supremacy over the 3-A Big East Conference girls cross-country field for the fifth time in as many races Wednesday as the Lady Warriors claimed fourth place out of the six competing teams on the Red Oak Middle course.West won the race by over 25 seconds, while Rocky Mount claimed the teamvictory. Fike finished third, with Southern Nash placing sixth.The Lady Demons placedtwo runners in the top 10, with Erin Pichey crossing the line in seventh and leighann Bowen coming in eighth. Kristin Ewan was 12th. while the Ladybirds were led by the 13th-piace finish of Madison Bell.Hunt freshman Mallory Sullivan came in 10th, while Meagan Westbrook turned in a 13th-place finish.In the boys’ race, Hunt finished fourth, followed by Southern Nash in fifth. Fike placed sixth.Kevin Bryant’s second-place finish paced Southern Nash, while senior Zovek Chapa logged an 11 th-place finish for Fike. Sophomore Tyler Joyner came in 12th.Fike’s only personal best of the meet was turned in by freshman Shane Long, who improved by 55 seconds after a light running week due to injury. Chapa matched his season-besttime.Marcus Medine-Artis led the Hunt boys with a sixth-place finish. Kemual Jones and Evan Lee finished 16th and 18th, respectively.“Our boys continue to work very hard during the week and we fully expect to see their results improve over the next three weeks,” first-year Fike coach Patrick Yarbrough said.”The next Big East meet will be held at Southern Nash on Wednesday.
