Now father of 9. . .George Steinberger smiles as he recounts tales of his days on the national rodeo circuit. That's typical talk for the 38-year-old Olathean, once a bareback and Brahma bull rider in the national rodeo circuit.He no longer makes his living from professional rodeo competition, yet he is active with local youth rodeos and horse clubs. His nine children keep him active.Steinberger and his wife, Jane, married two years ago. He had three children by a previous marriage and shehad six children. Now the couple is raising all nine children in a big two-story, white frame house on 40-acres northwest of Olathe.‘‘It’s pretty busy around here, Steinberger said. He then listed the children, all teenagers except one. They are: Pam and Angela, both 17; Gwen and Leri Kay, both 16; Tim, 15; Todd Allen. 14; twin boys, Mike and Pat, both 13; and Larry, age 12.When Steinberger isn’t working his fulltime job with Holliday Sand Co. in OverlandPark, he is working with horses or youth, or both. During this past year he has been instrumental in forming a youth rodeo association for the Johnson County area.Last October, several men and myself rented the Whispering Downs arena, he said. We had 365 kids participate. Now that's a lot of kids.From that rodeo, the AU Youth Rodeo Association for area kids emerged. There are two divisions, the junior (Continued to page 14)
