The Raiders were a vastly improved team, and they forced the»Commanehes to go all out under the lights to cop a 20-0 victory. The game was closer than the score indicates, as Western led in first downs,15 to 12. -Cahokia scored in the first three periods.Joe Lange kicked off to Cahokia, and Ron Whittifield returned the ball from the 13 to the 34. In four plays, quarterback Bob Geppert led his team to Western's 12. The drive was highlighted by a 30-yard pass, Gep-pert to Dave Smith.The Raiders showed their spirit by digging4 in and taking the ball on downs. Mike Prime at once scooted to the 23 around end, and Cliff Isen-berg pounded for 5 more. However, a missed signal in the baekfield caused a fumble, which was recovered by Cahokia on the 23.In two end sweeps Tytus Winters reached the 15. Then Smith bolted around end to the one-foot line before being tackled by Tabor and Isen-berg. Bill Schmidt leaped over for theT.D., and Don Karr's kick gave the► •Commanehes a 7-0 lead.Penalty Halts CadetsAfter the kickoff, Tom Burnham, Mike Tabor, and Bill Billingsley powered back to midfield before a clipping penalty forced the Raiders to punt.The second period found the Commanehes marching 64 yards in ten plays to score. Bob Geppert and GlennMcNabb ate up most of the yardage.• »Smith plunged from the one-yard line to reach paydirt. The kick for the point was blocked, and the count was 13-0 when the half ended.d Long Run By WintersThe Raiders had contained the speedy, Ty Winters, but in the third quarter they relaxed a moment. In that moment, Winters sprinted 68 yards around end for a touchdown, Karr passed to Charles Moxley for the P.A.T., and Cahokia had a 20-0lead.Late in the third frame, the Raiders drove to the Cahokia 9. Billingsley crashed 5 yards, and Isenberg flashed around end 18 yards to the Cahokia 46. Off-tackle plays brought another first down. Hal Holshoy and Isenberg, both Sophs, completed a 20-yard pass play to the 9. Then penalties caused the Red Raiders to lose their touchdown punch.The last period was scoreless. The Commanehes had felt the weight ofithe Western boys’ drive, and the Raiders were proud of a well-played game against a very strong team.
