In the second period they started on their own 45-yard line and rushed the ball to the Waynesville two-yard line, where Bill Stanley went across on a quarterback sneak.Three times the Waynesville boys reached Marion’s one yard line and were stopped there. The last three minutes of play were like those in the movies or a novel. Waynesville had reached the Marion 10-yard line and was held for nine down. The game ended with the Rippers on the Waynesville 20-yard line.Coach Troutman said the most outstanding plays were made by Guy Nichols, Jr. and Kenneth (Red) Kanipe, guards; Bill Mclver and Linn Crawley, tackles; Jack Goode and Sammy Britt, ends; Louis Wall, center, and Bill Stanley, Kenneth Toney and Donald England in the back field.James Byrd, returned veteran of World War II and letter man of Marion, has returned to play end on the Marion team.Marion will meet Shelby Friday night in a conference game on the Shelby field.
