Girls’ T ennis T earn W insEHS Blanks AltonThe interscholastic girls’ tennis team at Edwardsville High School continues to roll merrily along.Altun became the team's fourth straight victim Wednesday. The score was 6-0, All matches were doubles.Thursday the team goes to Wood River for a return meet. Conches Kay Hyten and Emily Piitehard are anticipating a tough test.Edwardsville opened the season last week against Wood River and won 7-4. All matches were singles.“Since Wood River has some fine individuals, and since it has been the only team to scoie against us, we believe we will have our hands full over there,” Miss H.vten explained alterTuesday's struggle with the Red Birds.Miss Hyten again praised the play of everyone. “We were especially pleased with the way Judy Fink and Tracy Enloe and Gena Bone and Kim Prott tallied in the second and third sets,” Miss Hyten added.Both Ed wards ville teams were beaten in the first set. It was a different story in. the second and third sets, however. Misses Fink and Enloe reversed a 5-7 veidict to square their match and took the deciding set 6-4 to put Edwardsville two points in front.Assured of no less than a tie, Miss Bone and Miss Prott also were aggressive in the third set. It paid off with another G-4 decision.Sharon Frey and Debbie Wild had given Edwardsville the initial edge in the meet with 6-3 and 6-1 set wins.Miss Hyten called Alton a fine team.
