In an account of the reaction on the second plane, Mullen said:“The 22 Wichita State football players, six assistant coaches and seven other passengers aboard the second chartered plane were notified of the crash near Silver Plume, Colo., after it landed at Logan about 4 p.m., Central Standard Time.“Just prior to the landing, Assistant Football Coach Bob Seaman was called to the pilot's cabin and was told he had a phone call waiting at the Logan Airport from Wichita State President Dr. Clark Ahlberg.“During Seaman's absence, several players speculated on the reason for the delay — guessing perhaps they were at the wrong airport or, the Utah State team had taken off for Wichita.“Approximately ten minutes after leaving the aircraft, Seaman returned and called roll.
