Prior to Friday’s onslaught, the Carthage club also had been figured as one of the top teams in the circuit.The Wildcats, recording theirfourth straight triumph, staged two sustained drives to tally in the second and third periods against Lamar's rugged squad.Hard - running Don McCreary, Neosho fullback and co * captain, capped both drives when he score-ed on one - yard plunges. Don Cramerr halfback, sliced through right guard for the 13th point.Lamar, downed by Aurora, 19-6, last Friday, staged only one main offensive threat during the entire contest. On the first play in the fourth period, Lamar attempted to pass from Neosho’s three - yard line but alert Terry Arenz nabbed the aerial in the end zone for an automatic touchback. Nectsho then took over on its own 20,The Wildcats marched 50 yards for their first touchdown. Cramer returned a punt from his own 25 to midfield to set the march in motion. With McCreary, Arenz, Cramer and Robinson sharing in the leather - toting, the Wildcats moved to the Lamar one. McCreary then bulled over for the touchdown with 8:13 left in the second period.A pair of short passes over the middle from Robinson to* end Timmy Brasiola kept the Lamar defense off balance during the surge.A plunge by Qramer through left guard after the first touchdown was halted and Neosho led, 6-0.Another sustained drive, this one for 70 yards, resulted in Neosho’s final touchdown in the third period. After taking Walter Havens’ boot on the Neosho 30, the Wildcats used an assortment of wide end sweeps, short passes and double reverses to move to the Lamar one - yard line with 5:52 left in the period. Seven seconds later, McCreary surged across for the tally. Cramer sliced off right guard to make it 13-0.The clock halted a Neosho scoring bid in the second period.
