Akron also has a record oftwo league wins and one loss. 1The Maroons* victory stampedthem as favorites to tie for theleague title if any other team canknock off unbeaten Massillon.Bob Cooper scored a pair of touchdowns while End Jack Curry, Chuck Alexander and Dick West each counted one score. Butch Roth kicked the only extrapoint tallied by the Maroons. Bob Stephenson and flashy Bob Flint scored for Akron.The Maroons threatened several times in the first quarter but were unable to score. Early in the game Guard Fred Hiss covered an Akron fumble on the Bulldogs* 36 but on the next play Rich Kaman/umbled with Akron recovering.Flint attempted to punt out, but only booted the ball 13 yards and on the next play Bill Roberts passed to Curry for 16 yards but the attack bogged on the 16. On the next play Bill Groom intercepted an Akron pass but again the Maroons were unable to tally.Early in the second stanza, Otto Capacini recovered a fumble on Akron’s 18. Cooper and Buddy Muratori brought the ball to the four from where Cooper went around the left side for the touchdown. Hiss* kick was wide.Later in the second quarter, Akron drove to the Sandusky 16 yard stripe but the Maroons held for clowns. Akron made another mild threat in the second quarter but ^r|Groom intercepted a pass—to_ end the drive.Early in the third stanza, the Maroons recovered a fumble on Akron’s 34. Cooper, Groom and Muratori advanced the ball to the 18 from where Groom tossed and Curry caught on a perfect pass play with the end going all the way for the score. Groom hit Curry with a pass to bring the ball to the five. Muratori pushed his way lo the two from where Cooper went over behind nice blocking.Gauthier tried a lateral on the kickoff ...return, and Tom Williams recovered on the 23.
