DENSE IGNORANCE.Elyria has never been able to defeat Lorain in foot ball.—Lorain Times Herald.Go on! You know better than that Brother Eowley of if you don't your memory needs doctoring. Perchance you don’t recall the first game between the high schools of the two towns, played in September, 1KS. Elyria won by a score of 2*2 to 6 and the Herald took cognizance of it under the heading “The Winter of Our Discontent.” Later Elyria went to Lorain and defeated the same team by a score of 16 to 0. The following year one game was played which Elyria w?n, 22 to 0, and in 1886 the score at Lorain was Elyria 12, Lorain 0. In 1897 Lorain, acknowledging the presence of four men outside of the schoool, beat a strictly high school team from Elyria by a score of 8 to 0. Since then foot ball has been played in these twotowns by independent! teams only and with these Lorain has been successful because Lorain has plenty of men whose time is of so little value that they can practice regularly. Elyria numbers a score or more of good foot ball men in her population but they are engaged in useful occupations and have put away childish things.Foot ball is most in place at a school or college. A high school team from Lorain never beat a high school team from Elyria.
