King Football Forces Way Into Hall OfSport; East And West Paying Homagelt; For Grid GameThe second week of football gets under way Saturday, with all the big eastern schools and most of those in the west playing games.Princeton and Yale and Cornell and the Army and Navy will be among eastern colleges to get their first games off their hands. Pennsylvania, Pen States and Harvard played last Saturday, so will be facing stronger opposition, knowing their own shortcomings and strength in competition.• * *Center college, the sensational little western school which had such a brilliant season last fall, will be going into action for the first time this year, Morris Harvey being its firstopponent. In the west, Indiana and Iowa will crack open the big ten season at Blomington. Ohio State also will get into action but not against a conference opponent. Ohio Wesleyan will be its first opponent.Yale will play its first game of the season against Carnegie Tech at New Haven. The Pittsburgh schoolis not anything for New Haven to become wildly excited about, but Carnegie has a much stronger team that it is generally given credit for and may make some trouble for the Blue eleven.Harvard is expected to have very little trouble disposing of Maine, and Princeton probably will romp over Swarthmore.* * *Cornell opens its season at Ithacaagainst Rochester. In bygone days this would have been considerable of an assignment for the Ithacans, but Rochester has lost some of its strength, and Cornell is generally supposed to be in readiness for a hard season. Gilmour Dobie is spending his first year as coach at Carnegie however, and eyes will turned critically on the outcome this game.• • •Pennsylvania has an easy assign-men against Bucknell and Penn State draws Gettysburg. The latter school always is a slow starter, due to class requirements, which keep much .good material from plenty of practice. The outcome of the game, therefore, may not be so stronglyin favor of Penn State as might be imagined.Neither the Army nor the Navy should experience a great deal of trouble with their opponents. Army meets Fnion at West Point. North Carolina State will be the visitor at Anna polls.beofIn the south no strenuous games are on the program. Georgia Tech draws an easy opponent in Oglethorpe, Alabama plays Marion institute at Tuscaloosa, and Coach cn Scott’s men, many of them holdovers from last year's fine eleven, should win with ease.Columbia, with a new coach atthe head of things and with thestudents taking a renewed interestin the eleven, will meet Trinity inNew York. Columbia has ambitiousplans ahead for its football team.and eager Now York fans probablywill fiock to see Trinity meet theNew York eleven.• + •West Virginia, after a battle last Saturday with West Virginia Wesleyan, plays Dehigh on the home gridiron. The university eleven should win easily.*Another professional football team started plans for the 1920 campaignand it happens to be one of theelevens that attempted to outscore the Canton Bulldogs, said outfit representing the Heralds of Detroit. Though Canton hasn’t hooked t.hoHeralds, tin* management of the outfit in Fordville has expressed a desire to try conclusions, and it also will apply for a franchise in the Amerlean Vrofessiona 1 Footlm11 association.Canton invaded Detroit last season. defeating the Michiganders by four touchdowns, two of which came on long runs by Griggs of Texas. The other two sets of counters followed blocked kicks as a result of aggressive work by Bulldog linemen.Ii:AKRON, Oct. 2.—Al Pieretti, starof the Cleveland professional football team last season and pitcher for the Boston Braves, has signed with ^ the local professional team, and will play center in the opening game with 1 Wheeling hero Sunday.
