bPROMOTERSHURT GAMEFail to Furnish the Talent Contracted for by Orpheum.SHARKEY LOSES ON FOUL BLOWSiS|a iaaMilwaukee fight promoters, by fail ure to keep their promise in the talent to be furnished, double crossed the orpheum management of this city Fridtfy night, disappointed 400 faog and. gave the game a Jolt for wbch it will take some time for It to recover The local management had contracted for a fast man of 150to 170 pounds to meet Tommy Crawford in the wind up of the tournament hut Instead Mil waukee promoters sent on a man 2r pounds under the weight and who from the very outset exhibited . a streak of yellow that caused him to lay down1' before the close of the first round in fear of Crawford who toyed with him at will and in the second round, the Milwaukee man refused to fight, taking the count to the accompaniment of hisses from the crowd. Crawford in a manly stntomert ro the crowd, expressed his regret and wiht his trainer, Mr. Crauo, gave a lour round exhbltiouthat was. the best thing of the evening.Another disappointment to the fans was the sudden termination of the bout between Kid Morris of Green Bay and Young Sharkey of Appleton in the third round because of fouls by Sharkey. The Appleton man had been warned by Referee Ed. Morris and several times fouled the Gren Bay man and iu the opening of the third round Morris was l a but put out by a foul blow which necessitated the calling of a prysician from the audience. Referee Morris stopped the bout and awarded it to the Green Bay fighter on a foul. The fight gave promise of being a fast one, both fight ers milling it in good simp up to the time of Sharkey’s foul. Sharkey is a fighter who has adopled the Terry McGovern style and appeared to be a good man. Morris is clever and a hard hitter and honors of the bout were even when the foul stopped it. Morris hag had hard luok hero, hav ing Lfeen prevented from finishing a fight with Jerry Nelson of Sheboygan here a few weeks ago when he broke a finger in the first round. Morris xpressed his regret to the crowd for inability to finish the fighi Despire his action Sharkey was a favorite with the crowd who wanted him to go on w’ith Crawford after the Milwaukee boxer laid down but Sharkey had made his getaway and could not be located.In the preliminary, Curly Wilson, this city and Jerry Nelson, Sheboygan Wilson claimed he wras not in condition and refused to go on and Kid Fric ke, a local fighter 30 pounds lighter than Nelson was substituted and gave a good account of himself even after giving away the weight. Fricke, however owing to weight had to keep out of Nelsons way and the fight not a fast one. Nelson has a good right hut did not get much of it and the fight, was not exciting enough to satis f:* tire fans. Fricke has the making of a-good to an in his class but was under a big handicap with Nelson'and yet showed gatneness and cleverness and was in the ring at the close of the six rounds. Fans say Wilson is to be blamed for.not raakag known his refusal to go on early to give the management a chance to get some one in Nelson's class to meet him. It Is suggested that Wilson lacks science to go against'Nelson 1nd thiB as much as poor condition promoted his refuB al Wilson has not appeared in fights here and makes no claim to being a trained fighter it is said.While the failure of the tournament Friday night was a disappointment to the crowd and is to be regretted the Orpheum management is not to be blamed, the Milwaukee promoters who failed'to fill their contract, being responsible wholly. A crowd of between 500 and 400 was in attendance The boxng game has just been given u gobd start to revival in' the city and the trouble is to be regretted as it wfll probably have effect of putting a damper upon the enthusiasm. Ed Morris, who officiated os referee was popular with the crowd and his action in stopping the Morris-Sbarkey bout and awarding the fight to Morris was approved. H. G, Hailock was- announcer and J. Herzog time keeper Several challenges were issued at the tourney, Nelson the Sheboygan man challenges Kid Morris of Green Bay and Kid Fricke of this city challenges Youing Scholu a Milwaukee bantam* who appeared here Is a previous bout.
