Ram Knocks OUt pugTlTst; *Stayte FUssThe horns upon this ram, sir,They were so long and thick,That when they struck Kid Carter, They made Kid Carter sick.—Ballade of Pat Cahill’s Ram.New York, Sept. 30.—And now poor Jim. which Is the ram's full name, has lost his job as mascot in Rat Cahill’s place.Since Pat Cahill retired unbeaten from tlio amateur middle-weight championship of America he has kept a place at No. 77 Railroad avenue, Jersey Clr’y. It is a fine place, with a gymnasium in the rear where men can exercise and raise a thirst. In the gym on Tuesday on Tuesday evening Mike Egan, champion handball player, and Kid Carter, the eminent 170-pound pugilist, were adding to their strength by hurling a medicine bail at each other.The ball is made of curled hair, but weighs six pounds and wherever it hits it hurts.When you pass the medicine ball like a football, it sometimes slips and shoots away. That’s wliat happened in one of Kid Career’s passes. The ball caught Jim, the ram, on the tip of his snout and downed him.Jim arose, shook himself and uttered a mild complaint like this:’ Bek- i eck-cck! Ba-a-a-a! Wild laughter by the crowd; Kid Carter leading.Jim gathered his feet together, lowered his heavy head, roared pfwoosht! *' and leaped at Kid Carter. Down and out went thlt;2 Kid, whom no pugilist living could ever knock down with one punch.• The crowd yelled and fled. Mike Egan went up a rcpe, haud over hand, and beat the world's record by 13-5 seconds. Jim whirled through the sa- ; loon like a cyclone' and outdid the ! hull In the China shop.Through the $60 plate-glass window I and into the street wont the ram. He ; charged the crowd. leaving the BontOD i Theatre and captured a lady's hat. which he flourished on his horns. With t this equipment waving, he smashed • into tlie carriage of Dr. Dougherty and j caused the horse to run away.Just as Policeman Murphy was about to shoot the ram, Pat Cahill ran out, begged for his life and led him home. But. when Pat viewed the ruins of his place he sent for Schwarzchlld, the butcher, to deal with bim.
