Farmers came in their wagons, some people even walked in; but the great crowd of jolly visitors came on the railroads. At the Union Station between the hours of 10 and 11:30 thiere was a perfect jam. The early morning trains brought in several- * Y /hundred, but the later trains carried thorecognized excursionists.The first train of excursionists was brought in by the C. E. I. This w'as the train from Goodland. It left Goodland at fj:30 In the morning and pulled into the? station here at .10:30 loaded to the guard?. The train went down on the branch road to Brazil where a regular rush was made' for it. It is estimated that' this one train carried 000 people. No. 4, on the Vandalia brought 300 from Effingham ami intermediate points. Then tUe /Vian-dalia train from the east unloaded ^bouL•Five bruising heats had been paced, and the three freshest in the lor were Sally Toler, Milton S. and Satin Slippers. The latter had been a consistent performer but could not quite reach, while Milton S. was getting good.
