A TRUE STATEMENT OF FACTIn Regard to the Delphi Team WhichAgalnat the Attica Boys.Playedte ofttica suchear-The champion liar of the s Indiana lives at Attica and author of a screed in the Evening News of Friday, No about the football game of Tliui His chief plaint is professional Now of all teams in the state, A should be the last one to make a kick. Last year they played dorf all season and paid him i his services, and when Delphi objected to his playing here last year Attica refused to play without him add the Delphi management gave in in order to secure the game. This year brought Deardorf, and paid him to come. They had one other outsider in the team, also. Now as to the Delphi team, the first of the season the foltticaery (?) as Delphi has but five or six. good players left who are not badlycrippled, and we have no doubt that with their eleven they might be able to score a touchdown against six men, but it would bo the first timo. for them to score against Delphi this year, although they have played two games. The whole article is a string of lies and brands the author forever asthe boss liar of Indiana.ZA SUDDEN DEATH.George Vales, of Kokomo, In Attempting to Avoid a Train Stepa In Front of Another.inceplayers have been lost to the Milroy, captain and half back; captain and full back; WasonL captain and half back; Roach, end; Dee-ter, tackle; Polleys, end ; Cartwrightj center, Arnott, end, and Rinehart, guard. After the Rensselaer game the team was badly crippled, but, nevertheless determined to go ajhead with the game and an eleven filled out; two days before the two of the players selected wer able to play and it was then, an till then, that the management to get outsiders and on Wedn got some friends in Lafayet come and fill the vacancies, the Attica management found who Delphi had they raised a howl about professionalism, al time having a member of the Ilight Artillery team with them and Delphi then agreed to play but one outsider, Kerchoff, having but nine other available men. Attica was sohereorable and highon-inded as to let Delphi play with ten men to her eleven, but at the last moment T who had been injured in the Re laergame and had stopped p ing, consented to play and this the eleven, but in the Delphi were three crippled players and one man who had never played before. Thewriter of the article goes on that as soon as the game commenced two of the Delphi players claimed to be hurt and that this was one of the lowest and most dishonorable schemes ever concocted. If the who wrote that had the slig instinct of humanity, if there w^re a particle of manhood in him,if he not below the level of a brute would have investigated and f out that it was the most infamou that was ever penned. In the jfirst place Dunbeck was the only Delphiplayer hurt in the first half and hewas hurt by misunderstanding a signal and running into Warwjick, breaking two of the lattcr’s and cutting his own forehead so ly that it bad to be sewed up,and so dizzy'he could not walk alwasne.Delphi would not have dispensed with his services if it had been possible to have kept him in the game as he was one of the best and surest players in the team and had {distinguished himself by tackling Deardorf, the Attica“profesh/’and forcing him back for a loss. Kirsh ifsl the next player injured in the Delphi team, but it was not until the latter part of the second half. The muscles in his shoulder were torn and he will be laid up for a month. We did not think that there was a man in Atticaso low as to write the above slander, but we have no doubt the Attica0management will at once correct it.Delphi has never had a paid player. Attica has had professionals both seasons and immediately afterthe game here tried to secure, the%services of Warwick, Lynch, the two Kirchoffs and others for tjheirthe andnext game. They should pick forty foot log out of their eyes, we want to say that notwithstan their howl about Kirclioff, thamghea | was solicited to come to Delphi by the Attica team to play with tliem but refused, preferring to play withSthe Delphi team. The artioie goes on to say that the Attica management challenged Delphi to play fort 100 or less a side and play only home men. We can not find to whom the offer was made, butif it were it showed undoubted brav-A sad accident occurred at th© Wabash depot on Wednesday evening which resulted in the death ofGeorge Yales, of Kokomo. Foot-ball circles are wrought up toa fever heat in this Community overthe disreputable conduct of a, number of the Attica eleven during their visit here. It is unfortunate for the respectable portion of the eleven and the good name of Attica that the bummier and social scavenger element lias a sufficient representation in their eleven to bring discredit upon their team and city. The Delphi team is composed ©f gentlemen of excellent breeding and high standing, and the sooner theydrop the discussion of the m .ttethe sooner will tlie stench cause 1 Vy coining in contact with the bu-a element of the Attica eleven be removed from their garments.,The stone for the new abutments for the canal bridge on Franklin street is on the ground and the work of excavating commenced yesterday.
