March 31, April 1, 2. 3 and 4.Slate winners from Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Wisconsin, Washington, Massachusetts, North Dakota, Illinois, New Hampshire and Alaska will compete in the event which will crown the [1959 United States curling 1 championship rink.Played in Chicago The playdowns were inaugurated two years ago in the „ Chicago arena, and last year played in the Milwaukee are* na. Final plans for bringing the tournament to Green Bay were made at the Midwest j Curling association exhibition curled here last Friday.The announcement of the selection of Green Bay as the ihost city was made by Walter Sdck of the Chicago Curling club and president of the national association; and Paul Moreland, Detroit, who will sfcrve as general chairman of the executive committee which supervises the event.,loinl sponsorship has again been pledged by Hughston McBain. chairman of the board of Marshall Field.The newly-formed National Curling association will assume entire operation of the event from preliminary play to the final play down s.Elimination TourneysState winners will be selected from a series of elimination tournaments among all clubs in the respective state.The first national curling title was won by the Harold lumber rink of 1 libbing. Minn. The 1358 title went to the C. Douglas Fisk rink of Detroit.The 10 competing rinks played each state winner, with the champion dele* mined by the number of games won.Named to Moreland’s executive committee were: Ralston B. Reid, Schenectady, N. Y., grand national vice president: and Lewis E. Phcnner,Appleton.An advisory committee includes Sclck, McBain, Waiter Rhodes, Madison, and Joseph Carson. Milwaukee.
