low Burlington People Passed ThanksgivingURKEY AND CRANBERRY SAUCErhe Foot Ball Game During theMorning Was a Feature.ME SLEEPER IS AWAKENED.i Large Audience Witnessed the Perfor ance of Santanelll Last Evening — Port Madison Defeated Burlington at In* door Base Ball—Other Doings.Thanksgiving was observed in Burlington yesterday much after the fashion of past years. There w’as a general suspension of business and a universal assault upon the national b^d. The banks and post office were closed and there was no delivery of mail. The city and county officials were granted a rest, and an opportunity of indulging in the sports of the day.The Foot Ball Game.About one hundred spectators, mostly admirers or partisans of one of the teams or else some favorite player, braved the damp and drizzling weather and attended the foot ball game at thebase ball park yesterday forenoon. The supporters of the High shool team seemed to be greatly in the majority, many of them being their schoolmates. They were equipped with the deafening tin horn, and overlooked no opportunity to vent their enthusiasm. The Athletics, as a rule, were a few years older than their opponents, and had many friends and supporters among the older spectators.The Athletics won the kick-off in the first half. The ball was sent into High school territory, and remained there until time was called Warr, Carpenter and Poor each made 15 to 20 yard gains during this half. The Athletics held their own and, if anything, seemed slightly superior, and while they had the High school goal in sight several times, they were yet unable to make thegain that was necessary. The first halfwas called with the ball in High school territory.Play in the s cond half was resumed after a ten-miaute rest. High school kicking off. The Athletics fumbled the ball, failing to advance it any, a great advantage to the former club. The High school team at this point commenced to batter their opponents’ line wdth great success. Their team averaged five pounds per man less than the other, and they had been doubteful about adopting this play before. They made gain after gain in this manner, Lagomarcino being sent through the Athletics* line three and five yards every time. He finally reached their goal with the only touch down of the game. Wheelock kicked goal beautifully. Play was . e-sumed, but when time was called for the last half neither side had any advantage. Following is the line up:High School. Positions. O. C. A.
