{.oyores impressive in racing pastBy BILL BURKEIt wasn’t the biggest basketball victory in Kansas Wesleyan history.But Saturday night's 75-50 romp over the Baker Wildcats must rank as one of the most important, and most satisfying, cage wins in recent years.The Coyotes proved they could back up new skipper Randy St. Clair’s assurance to Wesleyan basketball followers that “The Coyotes are coming back.”The days of other Kansas conference basketball teams pushing the Coyotes around; the years of I. 2 or 3 victories, may be over.“We played the way we’re capable of playing/' an elated young Coyote skipper explained.“A lot of things went wrong Friday night (Wesleyan dropped the opening game of the Kansas Wesleyan Classic to Ottawa. 55-56).“ he went on, “We weren't prepared Friday and all of us were disappointed. We knew we were better than that.. But I was kinda surprised we went full circuit. It was due to a good effort and that is an encouraging sign. It's been a while since we've had a ‘laugher’ and I don’t know when we might have another.“We're not big and physical but we have an intelligent team and it will carry us through.“Baker tried to man-to-man us and we forced them out of that after about 8 minutes. It was a credit to our execution. It'simportant for our kids to know they can execute.On the basis of its play in the late game Saturday night. Wesleyan looked the most impressive of the 4 teams entered in the 2-day tuneup between KCAC and Heart of America foes.The team displayed good teamwork and corrected some glaring mistakes of Friday night which contributed to the loss in the opening game.Wesleyan .hits the road for the first time Wednesday, going to Emporia to meet Coach Gene Stauffer's College of Emporia Prcsbies. the other Kansas member of the Heart of America league.Although the Presbies will not have 6-8 Charles Golson, who was graduated, the remainder of the strong ball club of the last couple seasons will be around again.“We’U have to play good ball.’’ St. Clair noted.
