Ho-Hum Performance WindsUp4Heart-Breaker For StreaksBy CHARLES WAGNERRegister Sports EditorA furious fourth-quarter spurt wasn’t enough to overcome three periods of shabby play, but Sandusky’s basketball squad proved one thing Saturday night.Hopelessly down by 15 points with 5; 19 remaining, the Blue Streaks suddenly charged back by completely taking the play away from host Bellevue only to wind up dropping a breath-taking 65-64 decision to the Redmen.A rash of first-half mistakes put Sandusky in the hole and it appeared Bellevue was going to breeze to its first victory over a SHS in nine tries under coachDuane Warns.Just as Sandusky ran into one error after another in the first two periods, Bellevue ran into a bevy of turnovers in the final heat... 11 of them to be exact. The aroused Blue Streaks cashed in on the errors to drill 17 points alone after the turnovers and, in fact, actually moved into the lead for a brief moment at 62-61 on Tony Randleman’s rebound goal with 42 seconds remaining.Sandusky continued to apply heavy pressure with its pint-sized five, but a foul with 34 seconds to go sent 5-8 Bellevue substitute Mike Ball to the line. The scrappy guard meshed both offerings for a 63-62 advantage, and Sanduskv turnedods. It was still Bellevue in complete command at 54-37 entering the fourth period, and the score was 58-43 with 5:19 on the board.Suddenly, the Streaks popped the ball loose time after time and roared back with 5-10 junior guard Walt Farris the chief architect with some fancy shooting. He pumped in six buckets in the wild last eight minutes as the Big Blue zipped in 27 markers to just 11 for the winners. Bellevue, in fact, had just one bucket in the last five minutes and 41 seconds.Bellevue turned the ball over fivetimes in succession without a shot, andthe Streaks scored four times and themargin continued to grow smaller.Warns called timeouts twice in less thanone minute, but still couldn’t stop the assault. The score was 58-52 with 2:46 to go as Farris connected, then 58-53 on a free throw by Ken Pearson. Bellevue retaliated as Don Kegerreis popped in a bucket, but SHS came right back with 1:55 to go on Larry Redding's bucket.Richmond, 6-5 senior, scored on a breakaway moments later, then received two free throws for an intentional foul. Richmond made the second try with 1:39 left to cut the margin to 60-58. Anoth-The Streaks regained control, however, and took another shot which went astray and 6-2 senior Keith Eisenhauer plucked off the rebound, and was fouled. The husky senior forward canned two foul tosses with eight seconds on the clock for a 65-62 lead and the Redmen watched as Randy Richmond hit a field goal at the buzzer.“I accept all responsibility at the way our kids played in the first half. They looked like they weren’t coached in the first half,” said Reynolds.“We just threw the ball away time and again without any pressure from them, but we ripped the ball from them in thelast quarter. We like to press and run and the press certainly made them come unglued. ’ ’ the SHS mentor explained. The k ids were super excited when the game started and the turnovers took us out of it early. We told them at the half we could beat them even though we buried ourselves. The kids came back strong and did an outstanding job of pressuring them in the last quarter. We could havewon it. Reynolds continued.Bellevue opened a 17-12 lead in the first period, then raced to a 34-18 half-time bulge as Sandusky turned the ball over 10 times in each of the first two peri
