Baldwin blasts juniors ^TORONTO (CP) — Howard Baldwin, president of the World irHockey Association, blasted Canadian junior hockey officials tiFriday and said he is sure an exhibition series between WHA vand European teams will go on as scheduled despite a can- ncellation threat by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Canadian Amateur Hockey Association, after being apetitioned to do so by the Canadian Major Junior Hockey League, told the IIHF on Friday the WHA was not in good standing with the CAHA, maintaining the pro league owes the 1CMJHL $320,000 in development fees for the signing of under- j,aged players. a“These petty, ridiculous people, these amateur hockey people ain Canada who have no idea what they’re talking about—what cthey’re conducting is a form of blackmail,’’ Baldwin said in a etelephone interview from his Hartford, Conn., office. fi“We will work something out, but, for the record, the CAHA ahas an enemy in Howard Baldwin.” sThe CMJHL and the WHA reached a tentative agreement on the issue last week, but the WHA demanded early this week that the CAHA drop claim to a $150,000 bond the WHA signed last November when it promised to keep its hands off underage players.CAHA president Gordon Renwick officially notified IIHF president Gunther Sabetski by telephone of the situation and the world hockey chief said the CAHA would receive IIHF support, thus threatening the future of the exhibition games.“Renwick can yap and howl all he wants,” Baldwin said. “But we will get this thing worked out one way or another and we will get our games.”The game includes a three-game series between the Soviet Union national team and WHA all-stars at Edmonton in January.Baldwin said legal action might be taken if the series is blocked. *“Hundreds of thousands of dollars are at stake here,” he said. “Edmonton Oilers alone stand to make about $700,000,”
