Carthage in 1 point winLAKE FOREST, III. - Jeanne Zuelke hit the winning basket and grabbed a crucial rebound to give Carthage a season-opening 54-53 basketball victory over Lake Forest Saturday.Zuelke, Carthage’s 6-foot-3 center, scored on a short turnaround jumper to put the Redmen up 54-52 with 22 seconds left.Lake Forest had a chance to tie it when Wendy Widing wentto the line with two seconds remaining. Widing made the first free throw, but missed the second. Zuelke grabbed the rebound to preserve the win.Cindy Czubakowski scored 20 points and Zuelke added 11 for Carthage. Zuelke pulled down 10 rebounds and Czubakowski and Denise DuKatz both had five assists.Carthage plays at UW-Parkside, 7 p.m. Monday.
