I’m very happy to be a member of theTexas Rangers.”The 26-year-old right-hander, the losing pitcher in the opening game of the 1976 World Series for the Yankees, said New- York was one of several clubs that showed interest in him.Meanwhile, Rangers’ General Manager Dan O’Brien said Texas was “delighted to have Doyle Alexander ” He also referred to Kapstein as the team's “super director of player personnel.”Kapstein said the Yankees tried to get Alexander to return, but “it just wasn’t possible ” He added: We talked day in and day out to reach an agreement. We parted in good faith. I feel the Yankees made every effort to sign Doyle.”Kapstein added that the Pittsburgh Pirates sent a delegation including Manager Chuck Tanner to Providence Tuesdav and made “an im-Wpressive presentation” toFingers.“So far as Rollie Fingers goes, the Pirates showed a great deal of interest today,” he said. “They have left Providence and we will maintain contact with them.included in the individual stats, Hertling would rank third in the nation His season totals include 11 games, 283 rushes for 1,542 yards for an average of 5.4 per carry and 140 yards per game. He is from Point Pleasant Beach. N.J., and a sophomore.Amsberg, 5-10 and 205 pounds, is one of the few players who have been with the Ravens four years. He has been a starter the past two after his hard work and dedication convinced coaches he was big enough to do the job. Amsberg’s blocking has been a standout and his consistency and attitude made him a team leader.Coach George Tardiff was understandably unhappy that only two Benedictine players made the prestigious team but pointed out that the Ravens, with a winning season and a post-season bowl appearance, have now made their mark and will be considered as a fully competitive ball club in the future.Coach Tom Judge was pleased with the selection of four team members for the soccer all-stars and commended all of the players for outstanding play and conduct at the NAIA Area II tournament.“It was a hard game for them to lose,” he said, “and the hardest loss I’ve ever had in coaching. They certainly gave it everything they had. ”The Ravens had played Rockhurst to a 1-1 standstill in the regular season and the two ball clubs went through the entire game and first overtime Sunday in a scoreless tie before the Hawks Finally netted a goal in the second overtime.Complete rosters of the all-star teams will be released in the near future.
